  Notes	(1) www.findagrave.com: Katherine Carlock Starnes Birth: Unknown, Virginia, USA Death: Unknown, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA Katherine Starnes was the widow of Joseph Starnes (c. 1730-1779) who was killed by the Indians on the Virginia frontier in what is now Kentucky. Her maiden name may have been Carlock/Gerlach, and she was probably a sister of the Rev. Hanschrist Carlock, an itinerant minister. Some sources state that three Carlock sisters married three Starnes/Staring/Stearns brothers. Mary married Frederick, Jr. (c. 1724-1779), Katherine married Joseph, Sr. (c. 1730-1779), both of whom were killed in 1779, and Caroline married Adam. After her husband's death, Katherine settled on lands that he owned in Mecklenburg (now Union) County, NC. She appears in the 1790 census, and I think she was probably living with her son Jacob in 1800, so she probably died between 1800 and 1810. The children of Katherine & Joseph were: Katherine (c. 1754-aft. 1820, m. Capt. William Crabtree) Joseph, Jr. (1755-1839/44, a Soldier of the Revolution, lived in Burke, now Alexander Co., NC, m. Rachel Rice), Nicholas (c. 1756/60-?, m. Sophia Kress), unknown daughter (m. Michael Moyer), Mary (c. 1758, m. Leonard Hise), Barbara (c. 1760-aft. 1824, m. David Starnes, not proved), Elizabeth (c. 1770-aft. 1850, m. Philip Wolf, not proved) and Jacob (1775-1848, m. Esther Wentz, the 4th great grandparents of the present writer.) Katherine may have been buried at the Morning Star Lutheran Church, or at the Old Bethel Methodist cemetery, near Indian Trail. She may also be buried at the old Starnes family cemetery down near the SC state line, or at some as yet undiscovered family cemetery.
