Notes |
- (1) This Elizabeth PURSELL is shown here as the wife of Benjamin HOLDREN in order to stimulate further research. However, the compiler is not certain that this Elizabeth PURSELL was, in fact, Benjamin HOLDREN's wife.
According to the 1830 census of Nockamixon Township, Bucks County, PA, Beniah HOLDRON's wife was born between 1750 and 1760.
Likewise, according to the 1830 census of Nockamixon Township, Bucks County, PA, Benjamin HAULDREN's wife was born between 1750 and 1760.
Elizabeth PURSELL's parents, John PURSELL and Anne W. COONE, were married to each other on 21 May 1761. Assuming that Elizabeth was born after her parents' marriage, she was born after 21 May 1761.
In his will dated 24 December 1793, John PURSELL listed his daughters in the following order: Ruth, Elizabeth, Ann, Margaret and Jane. If John's daughters were listed in age order in his will, Elizabeth would have been his second daughter, and would have been born at least several years after 21 May 1761, assuming that she was born after her parents' marriage.

According to this source, Elizabeth was married to Benjamin HOLDREN, and collected her husband's Revolutionary War pension after his death on 14 October 1844; the last payment was made to her in 1846.

Elizabeth, m. Benjamin Holden.
(4) Some sources claim that Benjamin HOLDREN's wife was the Elizabeth PURSELL who was a daughter of Thomas PURCELL and Mary VAN HOOK. However, according to McCracken, op. cit. supra, pp. 204, 206, the latter Elizabeth PURSELL was a "twin, who m. William BROWN; removed to Kentucky where a daughter is said to have inherited a fabulous fortune."
