- (1) "John Chambers of Chichester Twp, Chester Co., PA," <https://sites.google.com/site/sjzscertainfolksandevents/johnchambersofchichester>:
There was a John Chambers who owned 200 acres of land in Chichester Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania from 10 Dec 1700 until 1721. He evidently remained a resident up through 1715. In the tax records of 1719 and 1720, he was listed as a nonresident. He sold his 200 acres in 1721. After this there is no further record of him.
The name of John Chambers' wife has not been discovered.
This John Chambers would seem to be the most likely candidate for being the father of the Lydia Chambers who married Arthur Barrett in 1705, the Katherine Chambers who married Alexander Ross in 1706, and the Rebeckah Chambers who married William Baels/Beals in 1712. Although there is nothing which identifies the father of Lydia Chambers, because her marriage took place only a year before the marriage of Katherine Chambers and because both the Barrett and Ross families later settled in Frederick County, Virginia, the assumption has been made that they were sisters. Noncontemporary biographies of Alexander Ross have stated that Katherine was "of Chichester", which would match up with John Chambers of Chichester. The Quaker records of the marriage of Rebeckah Chambers identified her father as "John Chambers of Chichester".
[NOTE: The above John Chambers was NOT the John Chambers whose first wife was Elizabeth Austwick. This latter John Chambers has often been incorrectly cited as being the father of Lydia, Katherine, and Rebeckah Chambers.]
