According to the Bute County Court Minutes for Feb. 1769, the estate of Charles Johnston, deceased, was ordered to be divided. The estate was finally divided May, 1769 between Mrs. Sarah Johnston and William and Hugh Johnston. (Bute County Wills and Inventories 1760-1800, p. 12.) The will of Sarah Johnston was probated in Warren Co. in 1781 - Warren W.B. 3, p. 79. Warren was formed from the northern portion of Bute Co. . . .
