  Notes	(1) The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, OK, October 8, 1933, p. 37: State Pair To Be Wed This Month Sapulpa Girl Will Marry Altus Man October 18, Live in Norman MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM POLK LONGMIRE, Sapulpa, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Mildren Lehr Longmire, to Laurence Stanton Starns of Altus. The wedding will be an event of October 18 [, 1933] at 7:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Episcopal church of Sapulpa. Rev. P. J. Conkwright, pastor of the First Baptist church of that city, will officiate. Miss Longmire attended Ward Belmont college and the University of Oklahoma, being a Pi Beta Phi at the latter school. Mr. Starns was graduated from the University of Oklahoma where he was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He has business interests in Norman and Weatherford. Following the ceremony, the couple will take a northern wedding trip and will be at home later in Norman. Attendants at the wedding will be Mrs. X. Jones, Tulsa, matron of honor; Miss Katherine Weeks, Tyler, Texas, maid of honor; Miss Virginia Bissell, Oklahoma City, Miss Elizabeth Willis, Sapulpa, and Miss Ruth Brizendin, Ponca City, bridesmaid; and Miss Caroline Landrith, flower girl. (2) The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, OK, October 19, 1933, p. 6: Society By Dixie Payne An out-of-town wedding of interest to state and city friends was that of Miss Mildred Lehr Longmire, only daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Polk Longmire, Sapulpa, to Laurence Stanton Starns jr., of Alva [sic], Wednesday night [October 18, 1933], in the First Methodist church of Sapulpa. The chrysanthemum and rose banked altar, glowing with cathedral candles, formed an attractive setting for the bridal group. Nuptial music furnished by Mrs. Guy L. Berry at the organ included "Meditation" of Thais, Humoresque and the Venetian Love Song, preceding the Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin. During the ceremony, at which Rev. P. J. Conkwright of the First Baptist church in that city read the service, Mrs. Berry played softly "To a Wild Rose," (MacDowell) and closed with Mendelssohn's rececessional. The bride wore a clinging gown of sheer white velvet, her floating veil of tulle and rare lace caught up with orange blossoms. Pearls were her only ornaments and her shower was of lilies of the valley and orchids. She was attended by Mrs. Xelno Jones, matron of honor, Tulsa; Miss Catherine Weeks, Tyler, Texas, maid of honor; Miss Elizabeth Willis, Sapulpa; Miss Virginia Bissell, Oklahoma City; and Mrs. Gerald Brisendine, Ponca City, bridesmaids. Little Carolyn Landrith was flower girl. John Gilkerson, Claremore, served Mr. Starnes as best man; groomsmen were Hugh Harnett, Altus; James Lewis, William Polk Longmire, Sapulpa and Xelno Jones, Tulsa. Maids were constumed in long taffeta frocks, shading from coral to a deeper pink. Their hats were close fitting cloque style in the same color. Each carried nosegays built on white velvet. The maid of honor wore white taffeta with blue accessories and the matron of honor pink taffeta and matching shoes, hat and gloves. For traveling, Mrs. Starns donned a suit of eel gray with fox fur collar and all gray accessories. She received her education at Ward-Belmont college, Nashville, Tenn., and the University of Oklahoma, were she was affiliated with Pi Beta Phi. Mr. Starns also is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Out-of-town guests at the wedding and later at the reception in the Longmire home were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bissell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. Hill jr., Miss Elizabeth Connelly, Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. H. Tom Kight, Claremore; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cordell, Holdenville; Mr. and Mrs. Ned Poe, Tulsa; Mr. and Mrs. L. Starns, parents of the bridegroom and his sisters, Misses Willa and Frances Starns, and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Austin, Alva [sic]. After an extensive trip to northern and eastern points, Mr. and Mrs. Starns will be at home in Norman.
