      [Note 1: (Walter Frost, the testator, was) the head of an ancient East-Riding family of which there is little known. His grandson, Walter Frost, esq. left an only child and heiress, Margaret, who married Jocelyn Percy, esq. of Newland in right of his wife. (Coll. Top. et Geneal. ii. 61.) On Nov. 2nd, 1468, an oratory was granted to Walter Frost of Newland for three years. (Reg. Neville, 1. 106 b.) The license was renewed for a similar period to Walter Frost and Alice his wife on Oct. 20, 1471. (Ibid. 138 a.)

      The testator was the grandson of Walter Frost, who was buried in the church of St. Mary at Hull, and the son of Thomas Frost of Beverley who died in 1421, by Catharine daughter of William Kelk, esq. Thomas Frost made his will at Beverley on August 8th, 1421, in which he styles himself sometime son and heir of Walter Frost of Hull. To be buried in the chapel of the Virgin at Beverley, in the north aisle, before St. Michael's altar, near Thomas Frost my late uncle. To my son, Thomas Frost, the Portiphor which I carry in my hand. To my dau. Margaret, 40 l. towards her marriage. To my dau. Joan, 45 marks for the same purpose. If they die, this money to be spent at Hull and Beverley for the souls of Walter Frost my father, Ellen my mother, William Kelk, sen., John Leversigge, and Katharine my wife. To Katharine, my wife, all the jocalia in my house at Beverley, save a drinking horn adorned with silver and gilt, the armour belonging to my body, a jack of defence covered with black worsted, six silver pieces with covers marked with trefoils, a Missal, a Portiphor of the York use in two volumes, a chalice with a patten of silver and gilt, two silver-gilt phials, a vestment of russet damask with two pieces of the same suit, a frontell with corporax, a super-altar, a silver bell, and everything belonging to the said portable altar; all which things are to go to my son, Walter Frost, when of age. John my son. My dau. Ellen, a nun at Nuncotom. In the entail are mentioned my brother Walter Frost, my sister Eliz. Pund of Hull, Henry son of Robert Morton of Bawtry, and Katharine my sister, Wm.       Walter Frost of Hull, gentleman (brother of Thomas Frost), made his will on the feast of the Conception of the Virgin, 1425, desiring to be buried in the chapel of the Virgin, near the tomb of Walter, his father. To Alice his wife (an exx.), he leaves his dwelling-house. Pr. Jan. 20, 1425-6. (Reg. sede vacante, 419 a b.)]

      [Note 2: On Oct. 20th, 1498, Thomas Froste of Beverley, esq., made his will, desiring to be buried in the church or chapel of the Blessed Virgin at Beverley, in St. Michael's aisle, near his father's tomb. To my five children and their mother, 200 marks. I give my daughter Elizabeth to John, son of John Rosse of Routh, esq., to be married to him. The residue to John Rosso, senr. He, and Elisabeth my wife, exrs. Pr.Nov. 9th. (Reg. Test. v. 488 b.)]

      [Note 3: Another son (of Walter Frost, the testator), perhaps, or, more probably, a grandson, was Robert Frost, canon of Bole at York, archdeacon of Winchester and Stow, and chancellor of Prince Arthur. He was a great benefactor to the church of Thornhill, of which he was the rector.]
