However, according to another source, George was married to a woman named Mary as of April 30, 1771. See O'Dell, Cecil, Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia, Marceline, MO: Walsworth Publishing Company, 1995, p. 165: George McCormick and his wife Mary sold 115 acres (part of the 395-acre patent land willed to George by his father) to John Dawkins for 500 pounds on 30 April 1771. If all of the above information is correct, George must have been married twice?first, to Mary, whose maiden name is unknown, before April 30, 1771; and second, to Mary CHAPLINE on March 15, 1782.
