  Notes	(1) O'Dell, Cecil, Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia, Marceline, MO: Walsworth Publishing Company, 1995, pp. 196-197: William Frost's will was written on 21 August 1774 and proved on 7 May 1776. He willed the 239-acre tract and 114-acre tract (350 acres) located at Shanghai, Berkeley County, West Virginia to his son William. William Jr. died in 1800 in Frederick County, Virginia. William Sr. willed 400 acres on Back Creek to be equally divided between his sons John and Thomas Frost. John died in 1777 and Thomas (b. 1745) [sic, should be Isaac (b. abt 1746)] died in 1774 en route home from an expedition of Dunmore's, an Indian campaign led by the British Colonial Governor of Virginia. Thomas left his wife Elizabeth [sic; Thomas did not die until 1822]. William Sr. willed 400 acres on Back Creek to be equally divided between his sons John and Thomas Frost. John died in 1777 and Thomas (b. 1745) died in 1774 en route home from an expedition of Dunmore's, an Indian campaign led by the British Colonial Governor of Virginia. Thomas left his wife Elizabeth. Sons Isaac and Abraham Frost received the other 400-acre grant land on Back Creek. Isaac died intestate in 1774. Sons Jacob and Amos Frost [sic, the testator did not refer to Jacob and Amos as his sons] were willed the 455-acre and 61-acre tracts in Clarke County, Virginia. Their mother Hannah, wife of William Sr., was to receive income from the two tracts. William listed seven daughters in his will; Frances, Elizabeth, Martha, Ellen, Anna, Mary (wife of Jacob Larew in Kentucky by 1807) and Hannah (wife of John Mason). (2) Jacob FROST is listed in Vol. 1, p. 495 of the 1787 census of Frederick County, VA. Listed in Jacob's household were 0 white males above 16 and under 21; 0 blacks above 16; 0 blacks under 16; 1 horse, mare, colt and mule; and 0 cattle. (3) Deed from Jacob Frost to Thomas Kennan, Frederick County, VA Deed Book 21, pp. 917-919: This deed dated September 2, 1788 from Jacob Frost to Thomas Kennan of Loudon County, VA, covers a 332-acre tract of land which is "part of a larger Tract of land devised by The last Will and Testament of William Frost to Amos Frost and . . . Jacob Frost." Since no wife of Jacob joined with him in executing this deed, releasing any right of dower she might have had in the land, the possibility exists that Jacob was unmarried as of the time he executed this deed. (4) The following deed abstract was provided to the compiler by Susan Grabek : Newberry Co., SC Deed Book C, pg. 812. 15 Dec. 1789: John Lindsey, Esq., of Newberry County, bound to Jacob Frost of Frederick County, Virginia, in the sum of £1000 VA money, 15 Dec 1789, to make title to tract adj. Saml Lindsey, William Wilson, Duckett, and said John Lindsey. It being a tract laid out to Clowney. Signed John Lindsey. Witnesses: James Lindsey, Thos Williams. Proved in Newberry County by the oath of James Lindsey Sr. 19 Aug 1796 before Elisha Ford, J.P. Recorded 20 Aug 1796. (5) A household headed by Jacob FROST is listed in the 1790 census of Newberry County, SC. Listed in Jacob's household are 1 free white male over 16 years of age; and 1 free white female. Since only one male is listed in Jacob's household in the 1790 census, he must be the free white male listed in the 1790 census as then being over 16 years of age. He was born before 1774, according to the 1790 census. Only one female is listed in Jacob's household in the 1790 census. Since no age brackets are given for females in the 1790 census, the age of that female is unknown. Jacob had a daughter, Sarah, who was born in about 1784, and would reasonably have been expected to have been in Jacob's household at the time of the 1790 census. If Jacob's daughter, Sarah, is the female who is listed in Jacob's household in the 1790 census, then no wife of Jacob was in his household at the time of the 1790 census. Jacob was married to a woman, also named Sarah, at the time of his death. However, the possibility exists that Jacob's wife, Sarah, might have been Jacob's second or subsequent wife, and that a prior wife of Jacob died before the time of the 1790 census. This possibility seems likely, given the fact that no wife of Jacob joined with him in 1788 in executing the deed described in Note (3), above. The possibility also exists that Jacob's daughter, Sarah, might have been an illegitimate child, or that she might have been in some other household at the time of the 1790 census. Finally, there might have been an error in the number of females listed in Jacob's household in the 1790 census. (6) A household headed by Jacob FROST is listed in the 1800 census of Newberry County, SC. Listed in Jacob's household are 2 free white males under 10 years of age; 1 free white male between 26 and 45 years of age; 2 free white females under 10 years of age; 1 free white female between 10 and 16 years of age; and 1 free white female between 26 and 45 years of age. Assuming that Jacob is the free white male listed in the 1800 census as then being between 26 and 45 years of age, he would have been born between 1755 and 1774, according to the 1800 census. Assuming that Jacob's wife is the free white female listed in the 1800 census as then being between 26 and 45 years of age, she would have been born between 1755 and 1774, according to the 1800 census. Assuming that the rest of the persons in Jacob's household are children of Jacob and/or his wife, those children would have consisted of two sons (which sons would have been born between 1790 and 1800, according to the 1800 census) and three daughters (one of which daughters would have been born between 1784 and 1790, and two of which daughters would have been born between 1790 and 1800, according to the 1800 census).
