Harman Hendrickson, the first to adopt the surname, was born in Holland in 1612, and died between 1674 and 1677. He was first of record in 1648 as a resident of New Amsterdam. Later he settled in Flatbush, Long Island, and in 1663 was a petitioner to the Director-General and Council for permission to establish the village of New Lotts, now part of Brooklyn. He was a cooper by trade.
Harman Hendrickson married in Holland, Egbertie Jans Brocq, of Amsterdam, who died in 1679. She married (second), Jan Snediker. The fourth among the eight children of the first marriage was: . . .
