      DEATH 0F A PIONEER

      MICHAEL B. SNIDER DIES AT HIS HOME AT AYR.

      LIVED HERE FOR OVER 30 YEARS.

      Was a Staunch Democrat And For Twelve Years Was Justice of the Peace of this Community.

      Michael B. Snider, a highly respected pioneer of this community, passed away at his home near Ayr, four miles east of Bremen, Monday morning, after lingering illness. His age was 81 years and 28 days. A few years ago while picking apples he received a bad fall, which combined with old age, was the result of his death.

      Mr. Snider came to Indiana in 1863 from Starke [sic; should be Stark] county, Ohio, and located in Marshall county in the year 1874. For a short time he resided in Bremen, and for over thirty years was a resident of German township. He was united in marriage Nov. 26, 1816, to Julian Essick, who died in 1880. To this union were born ten children, of which seven are living, viz.: William Snider and Mrs. Samuel Lacer, of this city; Curtis Snider, South Bend; Julia Dick, Goshen; Lydia Hale, Hersey, Mich.; Adam Snider, Indianapolis; Hattie Hepler, South Bend. In 1881 he married Mrs. Elizabeth Stanley, who survives him. There remain to mourn his departure seven children, three step-children, twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

      Mr. Snider politically was a staunch Democrat of the Jefferson type and for over twelve years was the justice of the peace of this community. He was a kind father and a good neighbor and his demise is mourned by those who knew him in life.

      The funeral services were held yesterday morning at the St. Paul Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a life long member, Rev. W. Roesner, officiating. Interment took place in the city cemetery.

      The late Michael B. Snider has three living brothers and one sister, viz. Edw. Snider, Ayr; Josiah Snider, New Paris; Wm. Snider, Canton, Ohio; Lydia Lowers, Goshen.

      The following out of town relatives attended the funeral of the late M. B. Snider, yesterday: Mrs. Hattie Hepler, Curtis Snider, Isaac and James Stanley, Mrs. Molly Miller, Mrs. Phena McCorkle of South Bend; Chas. Miller and wife, Mishawaka; Julia Dick, Jacob Cassler, Manias Sherick, Peach Sherick, Goshen; C. Chokey, Josiah Snider, Chas. Snider, Milton Snider and wife, New Paris; Cornelius Morris, Jacob Ehrett, A. Yoder, Mrs. Fred Cothron, John Fisher and wife, Wakarusa; Wm. Stanley and wife, Lakeville; Wm. Davis and wife, Warsaw; Adam Snider, Indianapolis; Lydia Hale, Hersey, Mich.
