    (1) Zabriskie, George Olin, "Christian Barentsen Van Horn and Some of His Descendants," The American Genealogist, Vol. 44, No. 3 (July 1968), pp. 155, 158-159:

Cornelis Van Horn, son of Barent Van Horn . . . by his wife Rachel Aultsen Van Ripper, was born in November 1747 in Franklin Township, Bergen County, New Jersey. This date came from the late Arthur Van Horn, a great-great-grandson of Cornelis, in his application for membership in the Blauvelt Family Association. He submitted with his application an old record:

Births. | John Van Horn's Grandfather and Grandmother | Cornelius Van Horn was born in | the year 1747 |Sarah Blauvelt, wife of Cornelius | Van Horn was born in the year 1756 | Children of the above | parents | Barney Van Horn was born the 10th of 1 November 1776 | Garret Van Horn was born the 10th | of September 1778 | Rachel Van Horn was born the 18th | of June 1781 I Daniel Van Horn was born the | 11th of October 1784 | Anna Van Horn was born the | 12th of April 1788 | Jane Van Horn was born the | 3rd of June 1797.

Apparently, the record of birth in 1790 of Cornelius Jr. (John's father) was on another page of the old family record, as it was not given on this page of the record.

Arthur Van Horn also said that Cornelis was baptized in January 1748, and that the record was found in "Drop Register voor de Christian Protestant Lutheran Church, Albany and Other Places." This entry is not found in the Lutheran Church records for which the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society has a handwritten, translated, transcription, but it may appear in the original records - the transcription is known to be faulty in some instances. On the other hand, Mr. Van Horn's reference may be to another Lutheran church record. His pedigree was published in the F. A. Virkus Compendium 3:457, which said that the parents of this Cornelis were Barent Jacobsen Van Horn and Rachel Van Buskirk. This we know to be in error for two reasons: (a) Land records prove that this Cornelis lived on land previously held by Dirck Barentsen Van Horn (father of the Barent whom we consider to be the father of this Cornelis), in Franklin Township where this Cornelis lived [Bergen Deeds D-404, P-357, Y2-62, O-151, J-125, T-316 f., P-124. Not all entries directly relate to family relationships but do relate to the land held by this Cornelis in Franklin Township), and (b) Cornelis's purported father, Barent Jacobsen Van Horn, lived and died on Bergen Neck, his home being at Constables Hook, while Cornelis lived in the northwest section of Bergen County, some forty miles away. More importantly, however, Barent's son Cornelis was born of his second wife, Eva Tietzort, whom Barent married in 1761 and was therefore too young to have been the husband of Sarah Blauvelt as claimed.

Cornelis was a blacksmith by trade and lived in the Van Horn house on Wyckoff Avenue discussed under his father's record. Cornelis's will was dated 19 May 1824 and proved 20 July 1825 (Bergen C-99). In it he mentioned grandson Peter Ward; heirs of son Barney and of son Garret (not named); five children: Daniel, Cornelis, Rachel (eldest daughter), Anna (wife of Cornelius Van Riper) and Jane ("her part in trust for her support"). Cornelis and wife were buried in a family burial ground and in 1932 their remains were moved to the Wyckoff Reformed Churchyard.

Cornelis married Sarah Blauvelt (Blauv. Gen. #531), born 22 June 1756 in Rockland County, N.Y., baptized 11 July 1756 at Tappan, daughter of Huybert Blauvelt and Aaltje Verveelen. She died 13 or 16 Aug. 1806 aged 50/2/3 [which does not fit the dates].

    Notes:

    (1) Zabriskie, George Olin, "Christian Barentsen Van Horn and Some of His Earlier Descendants," The American Genealogist, Vol. 43, No. 4 (October 1967), pp. 193, 201-202:

Dirck (Derrick) Barentsen Van Horn, son of Barent Christiansen Van Horn and Geertje Dircks, was born 23 Jan. 1680, according to Williams, at Minkaque, now Greenville, but after his marriage he lived in the Acquakanonk area, perhaps in the southern part of present Paterson called Wesel. Later he lived at Slotterdam (now part of East Paterson) where his youngest child was born. He owned land at Wagaraw, now part of Hawthorne. His will, as Derrick Barent Van Horn of Saddle River Township, Bergen County, was dated 26 May 1733, not proved until 27 Aug. 1768 (N. J. Wills 4:449). He named as executors "my brothers, Gerret Gerretse and John Gerretse" (brothers of his wife), and when the will was proved, both were already dead. The court appointed as administrators Dirck's sons Barent and John Van Horn. In his will he mentioned his wife Elizabeth and their children: eldest son Barent to have "a lot of land on the Great Pond"; sons Garret and John; eldest daughter Gertje; daughters Leah and Nelsie; leaving to all his children land in Wagrawe in Bergen County. Dirck married 11 April 1704, with banns dated 19 March, in the Old Bergen Reformed Church in Jersey City, Elizabeth Gerretsen Van Wagenen, born 3 March 1682, baptized 19 April 1682 in the Old Bergen Church, daughter of Gerret Gerretsen Van Wagenen and Neesje Pietersen Merselis. She did not die unmarried as given in some accounts of the Van Wagenen family. These statements may have been based on an entry in the printed Old Bergen Church burial records: "Buried 24 January 1707, Lysbeth Gerrits, wid. of Guert Gerritsen, at Bergen," for this the burial date usually given for her early death, but this entry is for Elizabeth Cornelis, third wife of Guert Gerrits. As shown by her husband's will, Elizabeth Gerretsen Van Wagenen was still alive in 1733.
