Sarah, married Richard French, son of Thomas and Jane French, in 1693. . . . The Burlington County Scattergoods are, generally speaking, descended by Benjamin and Martha Shreve and the Philadelphia branch from Thomas, Jr., and Phebe Wetherill Scattergood. An article appearing in "The Friend" in 1857 states that Thomas Scattergood, the immigrant, died in 1734 "in advanced age" and that in his will "he requested that his children deal kindly towards the Indians, allow them to reside on the estate and cut timber without charge." This is undoubtedly an error as the immigrant died in 1697 and his will, of which I have a copy, does not even refer to the Indians.
