      Charles W. Cline Dies of Heart Attack at Farm

      Charles William Cline, retired farmer who lived at 216 West North street, died unexpectedly from a heart attack at his farm on U.S. 6 west of town Tuesday about 11:00 a.m. He had gone to the farm to assist his son Wilfred, who lives on the place. Evidence at the inquest by Dr. Otis R. Bowen disclosed that Mr. Cline had apparently become ill while working at a fence near the barn and had gone to the barn to rest. His son found him in a horse tank near the barn, where he had fallen when the attack occured [sic]. [Note by compiler: Dr. Otis R. Bowen later served as Governor of the State of Indiana from January 9, 1973 to January 13, 1981.]

      Born near Bremen August 15, 1890, Mr. Cline was the son of Harrison and Ellen (Reed) Cline. He was married Nov. 11, 1913, to Lena Wiegand of Lapaz, who survives. Mr. Cline was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church. He had been a farmer until his retirement a few years ago.

      Surviving besides the widow are two sons and a daughter, Nelson and Wilfred Cline and Mrs. Walter Bauer, all of this community; four brothers, Alvin Cline of Chicago, Raymond of Bourbon, Elmer of Osceola, and Clarence of Bremen; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer Eslinger of South Bend, Mrs. Ernest O. Annis and Mrs. I. Oliver Pfeiffer of Bremen. There are three granddaughters and one grandson.

      Funeral services will be held in the Lutheran church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, following a prayer service at 1:30 in the Huff Funeral Home. Rev. Harold V. Schmidt, pastor of St. Paul's church, will officiate. Burial will be in Bremen Cemetery.
