(2) Prindle, Paul W., "Gray-Hobby," The American Genealogist, Vol. 64 (October 1989), p. 213:
John Hobby, Jr., born ca.1658, son of John and Sarah (Gray) Hobby of Greenwich, died unmarried on 12 March 1692/3. On 19 Nov. 1693 the Fairfield Probate Court appointed "Thomas Hubby of Greenwich, brother to sd deceased," to administer on the estate. This Thomas, born ca.1660, died 6 Aug. 1732 (Greenwich, Conn., Early Recs.). On 11 Jan. 1722/3 the Court empowered "John Hobby, Son of John Hobby of Greenwich," to administer on the still undistributed portion of the estate.
This caused a "one John Hobby too many" problem. Based on circumstantial evidence, I concluded that the administrator named by the Court was really "John Hobby, son of Thomas Hobby of Greenwich," not "Son of John Hobby of Greenwich" (Gillespie Am. pp. 221-23).
