      WILL OF BARTHOLOMEW AUSTIN. St. Marks Parish, Craven County, South Carolina October 6, 1768

      In the Name of God, Amen. I Bartholomew Austin of the Parish of St. Marks in the County of C raven, South Carolina, Miller, being sick in Body and weak also, but of perfect Mind and Memory Thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all Men Once to die, do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say, Principally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul unto the Hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrectio n I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God, and touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. Imprimis I Give and Bequeath this Hundred Acres that I live upon Mill and all Appurtenances belonging thereunto to my Son Joseph Austin and his Heirs of his Body, but if he should die Childless then to the next youngest that is Edeth [Edith]; Item. I give and Bequeath one hundred acres to the Discretion of the three Executors to be sold or kept to pay Debts of Credit that shall come in against the Estate. It is to be understood of my Old Pl antation between Broad River and Little River; Item. I give and Bequeath to my most Dear beloved wife Elizabeth Austin a tract of One hundred fifty acres on the Mill Creek that Runs to my Mill for and to her own disposal and furthermore I leave everything totally and wholly to her reserving things above mentioned in the first and second Articles. Item. I also leave my most loving wife Elizabeth Austin, my beloved son Drury Austin and my son John Austin whom I Constitute my only Executors of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments Wills Legacies Bequests and Executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed; Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this Sixth day of October in the Year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and sixty eighth. Bartholomew Austin (seal)
