He was united in marriage to Matilda Hill in 1854. To this union was born 1 son and 2 daughters. He was one of the first six families to move into the township in which Wakarusa is located. He was a soldier in the civil war. He leaves his 3 children, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. His wife died last July 29. He was converted about 30 years ago, and as the custom is joined one of the many warring sects. In a few years the sect yoke became unbearable, so he joined another sect, only to find the same yoke on his neck which helped to open his eyes, so he saw that Babylon had fallen: Rev. 18:1-6, and that money went further in the sect churches than righteousness, so he obeyed Rev. 18:2, and came out of the Babel bondage and lived the remainder of his days with Christ outside of all human camps. Heb. 13:13. He died in a living faith. It was his request that I should preach his funeral, but I was not at home then.
