(1) Zabriskie, George Olin, "The Jan Cornelisen Van Hoorn/Van Horne Family," The American Genealogist, Vol. 46, No. 3 (July 1970), pp. 170-171:
Abraham Van Horne, son of Cornelis Jansen . . . by his wife Anne Marie Jans, was born in New York and baptized there in the Dutch Reformed Church on 31 Jan. 1677, witnesses: Assuerus Hendrickszen and Hillegond Joris (the child's grandmother and uncle by marriage). Abraham was a merchant and property owner in New York City. His home and storehouses and the like were on the south side of Wall Street. He is the Abraham Van Horne of New York City who was the focal point of subsequent tales of fortune which have been previously discussed. In the census of the East Ward taken about 1703, his household consists of one male 1 and one female adult, one female child and three negroes. On 20 Feb. 1711 he joined with his brothers and others in asking protection from pirates. On 17 June 1722, his recently acquired son-in-law, Governor William Burnet asked the Lords of Trade in London to appoint Abraham as a member of the Council of the Province. Burnet referred to him as "one of the most eminent Merchants of this City." He served on the Council until his death, but not without some difficulties. In 1729 it was reported that he was being subjected to "scandalous, unjust and false reflections, . . . in particular . . . that [he is not] a perfect master of the English language"; also that he was "nigh or about 60 years of age [Both dreadful faults, of course, especially in view of the mastery of English by their Hanoverian majesties! - Ed.] In 1737, as a member of the Council, he attended a conference with the Indians at Albany. In 1739 Lt. Governor George Clarke complained to the Lords of Trade that Van Horne did not attend Council meetings, and on 15 Dec. 1741 Clarke reported that "Mr. Vanhorn dyed this year." Two years later, on 18 Nov. 1743, Governor Clinton nominated a successor. The will of Abraham Van Horne of New York was dated 27 Dec. 1740 and proved 28 Jan. 1741/2 (NYW 3:340), and mentions wife Mary, sons David and Samuel, daughters Mary (deceased wife of Governor William Burnet), Catharine (wife of Peter Cock), Margaret and Anne. He also mentioned, but did not name, two grandchildren, children of daughter Mary. The executors were his wife and children. On 16 Sept. 1700 he married in the Dutch Reformed Church in New York Maria/ Mary Provoost, born 2 April 1682, baptized in the Dutch Church 26 April 1682, daughter of David Provoost Jr. and Tryntje Laurens, and sister of the wife of his brother Gerrit. As surviving executor of the estate of Governor William Burnet, she entered into a suit in 1750 in Middlesex County, New Jersey (NJA 12:650).
