- (1) Elizabeth Ann Grubb:
NOTES:
The parents of Eliza MORRIS were not known until receipt of a copy of the C.W. Pension File of Cornelius MORRIS, her brother.
Sarah MORRIS, in serving as informant for the death certificate at the time of Cornelius' death (1930) reported that his parents were Isaac and Elizabeth SAILOR MORRIS, and that both were born in OHIO. Per Emma GILCHRIST, great granddaughter of Isaac, Eliza was born in OHIO about 1842. Cornelius was born in Elkhart County, IN in December, 1845. Ergo, Isaac and Elizabeth were born and married in OHIO, then moved to Indiana between 1842 and 1845.

(2) J. Douglas Sailor :
The following appears in the history of Elkhart County, Indiana:
"Olive Township in Elkhart County, Indiana, is in the western part of the county. This township was organized in the spring of 1836 by Cornelius Terwillinger, Jacob Sailor, Frederick Morris, Samuel and Levi Martin, and David Allen. Of the above named persons, Jacob Sailor was the first settler here, having arrived in the early part of 1834. The first election in the township was held in April 1837 at the home of Issac Morris. The voters were Daniel Michael, Jacob Sailor, Sr., Jacob Sailor, Jr., Samuel Martin, Moses Sailor, William Sailor, Cornelius Terwillinger, James Dodge, Issac Morris, Aaron Medders, and Frederic Morris. The latter three were sons-in-law of Jacob. "
(3) A household headed by Isaac MORRIS is listed in the 1830 census of Enochs Township, Monroe County, OH.
Because of the sketchy nature of the information in the censuses before the 1850 census, the compiler generally assumes that the oldest male in the household was the head of the household; that the oldest female in the household was the spouse of the head of the household; and that the youngest males and females, if any, in the household were the children of the head of the household. These assumptions may not be correct.
Age ranges in the household headed by Isaac were as follows: 2 free white males under 5 years of age; 1 free white male between 20 and 30 years of age; 1 free white female under 5 years of age; and 1 free white female between 20 and 30 years of age.
Assuming that Isaac was between 20 and 30 years of age in 1830, he would have been born sometime between 1800 and 1810.
Assuming that Isaac's wife was between 20 and 30 years of age in 1830, she would have been born sometime between 1800 and 1810.
Assuming that two of Isaac's sons were between 0 and 5 years of age in 1830, those sons would have been born sometime between 1825 and 1830.
Assuming that one of Jacob's daughters was between 0 and 5 years of age in 1830, that daughter would have been born sometime between 1825 and 1830.
(4) Isaac MORRIS was living in Elkhart County, IN no later than June 30, 1837, because on that date he received from the U.S. Government a land patent covering 40 acres of land in Elkhart County, IN; and that patent shows that Isaac was then "of Elkhart County, Indiana." The following information about that patent is from the Bureau of Land Management website at http://www.glorecords.blm.gov:

(5) Based upon information derived from the Bureau of Land Management website and from censuses after the 1840 census, it appears that Isaac MORRIS' household probably lived in IN at the time of the 1840 census. The compiler has not found a household headed by Isaac MORRIS listed in the 1840 census of Elkhart County, IN, but has found a household headed by Isaac MORRIS listed in the 1840 census of Kosciusko County, IN. Assuming that one of Jacob's daughters was between 15 and 20 years of age in 1840, that daughter would have been born sometime between 1820 and 1825.
Assuming that one of Jacob's daughters was between 20 and 30 years of age in 1840, that daughter would have been born sometime between 1810 and 1820.
