  Notes	(1) Elizabeth Ann Grubb: NOTES: This son of "Bud" O'DELL was called "Pleas" by some members of the extended family and "Ernie" by others. The relationship of Pleas O'DELL and his wife, Alice WRIGHT O'DELL to compiler's parents is of some interest. Aside from the fact that Pleas was a first cousin to Elizabeth O'DELL GILCHRIST, mother of compiler, Alice was also a first cousin (and very close friend) to compiler's father, Virgil J. GILCHRIST. Wilma (MOW) FOLTZ has provided compiler with the following obituary, presumed to have been taken from a South Bend newspaper. There is no date of publication, no date of death and no name of the newspaper on the photocopy. Wilma has attached a handwritten note which states that Ernest O'DELL died June 16, 1988. MISHAWAKA OBITUARIES Ernie O'DELL "Ernie O'DELL, 87, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, South Bend, died about 5 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul's Health Care Center, South Bend, after an illness. He had retired from the former Studebaker Corp. in 1964 after 40 years. He also was an antique dealer for 30 years, most recently at Thieves Market. Born Dec. 23, 1900, in London, Ky., he spent most of his life in Mishawaka. On Dec. 23, 1922, in Rochester, he married Alice Pauline WRIGHT. She died in 1973. Survivers include a daughter, Harriet E. MEUNINCK of Mishawaka; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ed O'DELL of South Bend and Leonard O'DELL of San Jacinto, Calif. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Hahn's DeVos Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth St." (Compiler's notes: There is some discrepancy from one document to another on the date of Ernie's birth. Microfilm of birth data in KY shows him to have been born in 1901; the obituary states that he was born in 1900. Also, the obituary states that Ernie and Alice were married in Rochester, but there is no record on file in Fulton County of this marriage. Alice's first marriage is recorded in Fulton County, but compiler suspects that the O'DELL marriage took place in St. Joseph County.) REFERENCES: 1.
