- (1) Lillie Pentheselia ADAMSON was named, in part, after Penthesilea, a Greek mythological character.
In Greek mythology, Penthesilea was queen of the Amazons and daughter of Ares, the god of war. She was an ally of the Trojans in the war against the Greeks. The Greek warrior Achilles killed her and then mourned her death, and she appears with him as a subject in Greek art and in a play by the German dramatist Heinrich Kleist.
