DARRYL B. EDELMAN
DARRYL B. EDELMAN was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on July 3, 1938, to Sara and Jules Edelman. Upon completion of Central High School in Tulsa, he attended The University of Oklahoma and was an active member of Pi Lamda Phi fraternity. He graduated from the School of Business at The University of Oklahoma and was awarded membership into Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society.
In 1956, Darryl married Lynn Kagan where they enjoyed 51 years of friendship, devotion and true partnership. In 1960 Darryl moved to Houston, Texas and began a career in retail and sales. Shortly thereafter, he formed Kagan Edelman Enterprises, and was well known and respected for his successful skills in commercial real estate development. He was an active Board Member of Heights State Bank, Allied Bank, Southwest Bank of Texas and Stewart Title Company. Darryl was a generous philanthropist and gave countless hours to Seven Acres Jewish Geriatric Center.
Known to most as "Big D", he had an incredible sense of humor and a larger than life personality that made him endearing to all those around him. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and tennis player. He loved watching all sports and supported the entire local professional as well as college teams, but nothing competed with his love for OU Football.
Darryl passed away December 19th, 2011 and was laid to rest at Emanu El Cemetery December 21, 2011. He is predeceased in death by his parents; Sara and Jules Edelman, Ann and Morris Kagan and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Kagan Edelman, children Lori and Stuart Speer, Karen and Mark Edelman, grandchildren; Zack and Matthew Speer, Jared and Anya Edelman, sisters Ellan Potasky and Sheila Husted and numerous beloved cousins.
The family is especially grateful for the long time friends and caregivers of Darryl who have been by his side with loyalty and love. The constant presence of Dr. Norman Berkman has always been appreciated and will long be remembered.
