      1301. HENRY VROMAN (731 Adam - 318 Jacob W.), b Sept. 30, 1830 at Berkshire, Delaware Co., Ohio, d at his home in Numa [Appanoose County], Iowa, June 3, 1915 aged 84 yrs. At the age of 20 he moved with his parents of [to?] Lee Co., III. He m (1) Elizabeth Holden [sic; should be Holdren], Jan. 1, 1854. She d in 1865 leaving four children. (2) His second wife was Martha Moe [sic; should be Noe] and to this union was born nine children. He was a Civil War Veteran, having enlisted in Co. I, 89th Illinois Infantry Volunteers, Aug. 14, 1862 to serve three years. He was discharged June 10, 1865 at Nashville, Tenn. In the fall of 1866 he moved to Webster Co., Iowa. In 1875, he settled at Numa [Appanoose County], Iowa where he was living at the time of his death in 1915. He had the following children [who are not listed in birth order]:

      Among these newer settlers were the following single men: Matthias C. Holdren, Henry Vorman, Amos Sweet, George Daniels, Allen Nichols and Moses Dumas. All of these men, with the exception of Allen Nicholas and Henry Vorman, married and chose daughters of the early settlers as wives. . . .

      In December 1852, Charles and his son, William Morgan, erected a large, two story frame building for a department store situated south of the Taylor Clemons Blacksmith Shop on Lot Twenty two (22) of Christiance's Subdivision. The grade or main floor was for a tailor and millinery department. The tailor department was managed and operated by the first tailor of Melugin's Grove, Henry Vorman. The millinery department was managed and operated by Daniel Leavens and his wife who was a milliner.
