      STATE POLICE CAPTAIN DIES

      Herschell W. MOW Succumbs After Heart Attack

      "Indiana State Police Capt. Herschell W. "Bill" MOW, 46, of 1746 Christopher Lane, Indianapolis, died in his home at 8:15 p.m. Saturday after suffering a heart attack.

      He was born Jan. 12, 1911 in Thompsonville, Mich. Capt. MOW spent his boyhood days in Richland Township, Fulton County, north of Rochester, Ind.

      On May 9, 1935 he was married to Bernice WALTERS, of Rochester, who survives. For several years he was an electrician and linesman for the Fulton County REMC.

      He was appointed an Indiana state Trooper July 1942. He was made first sergeant in 1946 at the Charleston Post. On July, 1947, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He was appointed commander of the Lafayette Post in 1949.

      MADE STAFF CAPTAIN.

      In February of 1954 he was assigned to the records division and made a staff captain and he was stationed at the Stout Field Police Post in Indianapolis.

      Capt. MOW was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Richland Center and of the Masonic Lodge of Washington, Ind.

      Surviving besides his wife are a son Randall Lee; a brother, Charles MOW, of Elkhart; a sister Mrs. Paul BARTS, of Lawrence, Ind.; one stepbrother Ralph BUNN, of Rochester, Ind., and two step sisters, Mrs. Wesley McMURRAY of Rochester, and Mrs. Joe HENDRICKSON, of Indianapolis.

      PRAYER SERVICES SET.

      Prayer services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Conkel Funeral Home, 4925 W. 16th St., Indianapolis, after which the body will be brought to the Foster and Good Funeral Home in Rochester, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

      The funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grace Methodist Church, Rochester, with Dr. Claude YOUNG, officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Richland.." (Last line of the obit. is missing from this copy.)

      HEART ATTACK FATAL TO HERSCHEL MOW

      Funeral services for Capt. Herschel MOW, 46, former Fulton county resident and a state policeman since 1942, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grace Methodist church here following services in Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

      Dr. Claude YOUNG will officiate at rites here and burial will be in Richland Center IOOF cemetery, where graveside ceremonies will be conducted by the IOOF.

      Capt. MOW, who had been in charge of the State Police records division since July of this year, died after a heart attack Saturday night.

      Born in Thompsonville, Mich., he was the son of Clarence and Edna (BEEHLER) MOW. He was a graduate of Richland Center high school and had lived in Rochester.

      HE SPENT several years as a lineman and electrician for the Rural Electrification Membership Corporation before joining the state police.

      His first assignment was at Jasper. Then he was named first sergeant at the Charlestown post. In July, 1947, he was promoted to lieutenant and became commanding officer at the Lafayette post later.
