Stone and Harry Macy Jr.,"Jan Aertsen Vanderbilt, His Children and Grandchildren," New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, Vol. 145, No. 1 (Jan. 2014), p. 74: JACOB VANDERBILT, born say 1698-1700; married about 1724 (first-known child) HILLETIE/HILLEGONT HARDENBERG, baptized in Jamaica 29 June 1703, daughter of Jan Hardenberg and Grietje Gerrits of Jamaica and sister of Gertruit Hardenberg, who married Jacob's brother Jan. Jacob moved from Long Island to Orange (now Rockland) County before July 1731 (first baptism there). His house, in what became Clarkstown, is pictured and described in Rosalie Fellows Bailey's Pre-Revolutionary Dutch Houses. On 4 March 1738 Lt Gov. Clarke was requested to send commissions to officers of the Haverstraw militia company, including Jacobus [sic] Vanderbilt, captain, and Andris Onderdonk, lieutenant. Jacob had eight children recorded in his family Bible, the first four named for the grandparents; two were baptized in Jamaica 1725-1727, and five in Tappan 1731-1744 (no baptism found for the child born in 1737).
