      MARY BROWN, dau of Jacob Brown and Wife, Elizabeth, b. about 1774 in Rowan Cty, N.C.; probably d. between 1850-60; m. 17 May 1792 Rowan Cty, to HENRY SALTS, with David Brown as bondsman. Mary inherited her "one eleventh portion" of her father's estate, in 1808, Wash. Cty, Tn. Henry and Mary were received into the Cherokee Baptist Ch in Wash. Cty, in the early 1800s. Henry Salts was called upon at various times to visit other members of the Ch. CHILDREN:

      [i] ELIZABETH SALTS, b. 1793 in N. C.; m. 14 Mar. 1810 to her cousin, Frederic Starnes. . . .

      [ii] ANDREW SALTS, b. 1796; m. Rosanna _____. In 1860, he was living next to Wyley Brown. . . .

      [iii] SARAH SALTS (Sally), b. 1800; m. 8 Jan. 1819 to JOHN MITCHELL. In 1850 this family was living next door to Mary, the widow of Jacob Brown. . . .

      [iv] ISAAC SALTS, b. 1801; m. Hannah _____. He was a Blacksmith. In the 1850 census of Wash. Cty, Tn., the elderly MARY SALTS, age 76, was living in the household of an Isaac Salts, b. 1822. There could be an error in the age of this Isaac Salts, as in the 1860 census, an older Isaac had the same wife and some of the same children. . . .

      [v] JOHN SALTS, b. 1802, m. 7 May 1827 to Susan Spring. . . .

      [vi] HESTER SALTS, m. 2 Oct. 1817 to SAMPLE ORR. In 1850 a Sample Orr, b. 1817 was living in Lawrence Cty, Tn.

      [vii] DANIEL SALTS, b. 1803; m. 12 Oct. 1817 to Rebecca McCardle. Records of Wash. Cty, Tn. indicate that Rebecca was the widow of Jacob Mccardle who was killed in the War of 1812 (a brother to Eliza McCardle, wife of President Andrew Johnson). The maiden name of Rebecca was Ball, and she was the dau of Thomas Ball. . . .
