      A man of this name worked for Isaac Green . . . 1749/50. Father's first wife died 5 September 1754. Of several children baptised at Beaumont, his son is bapt 13 November 1752, daughter Martha 26 March 1749. Second wife Mary Mashland, widow of Beaumont, 1754.

      . . . 14 September 1765, advertised for a foreman to a Brick kiln to make 300,000 bricks and 100,000 tiles next season, and shortly afterwards (. . . 14 December 1765) that he had lost a black letter-case containing estimates of carpenters' work. He advertised for two sawyers the following year ( . . . 15 February 1766).

      His will . . . , made 13 October 1780, proved 8 December 1781. It leaves much property: -

      • To son Samuel, copyhold messuage and nine acres held of manor Shughaugh, Great Oakley, also land and premises held of Guy's Hospital, also messuage I now dwell in (in Beaumont) and all working tools.

      • To daughter Martha, copyholds of manors of Newhall and Oldhall in Beaumont and £200.

      • To daughter Hannah wife of John Quilter, cottages in Great Oakley and Mose, and Quilter is forgiven debt of £323 on condition he mortgages the premises concerned to son Samuel for £100 instead.

      • To daughter Sarah, wife of Leonard Nunn (miller of Bradfield, married in 1779), tmt [tenement] newly erected on land of the manor of Shughaugh, and another on waste of rectory of Bradfield.

      • To wife tenement holden of manor of Mose (occ wid of Philip Cook) for life, then to Sarah. Also interest of £900 3% stock.

      • To executors son Samuel and Leonard Nunn, £300 in trust to place out at interest for son Benjamin (bn. Jan 1747/8, app. John PiIborough of Ramsey, tailor, 1761, £10) and Mary his wife, then to be divided between their children. And £50 for the education of their son Benjamin now 9.

      Residue in fifths to same legatees (complicated).
