      _____

A reporter espied Dr. Orr going into the postoffice yesterday afternoon carrying in his hands a very official looking package. It was addressed to D. C. Carpenter, U. S. Pension Agent, Knoxville, Tenn.

In answer to a query as to the nature of the contents of the package, Dr. Orr said that he was mailing affidavits from pensioners of the Seminole and Creek war of 1836.

This war was participated in, said Dr. Orr, by a large number of citizens of Georgia. The scenes of the war were mostly confined to Florida and the southern portion of Georgia. There are but a few survivors of the war in this section of the State. Clarke county, however, has three, namely: Mr. W. H. Lampkin, Mr. W. H. Buchanan and Mr. Emanuel T. Kendrick. There are a number of widows of the brave soldiers who so successfully put down the savage red men, and these old ladies are entitled to pensions under a special act of Congress. In Clarke county there are six widows who draw pensions from this fund, namely: Mrs. J. N. Wier, Mrs. Emily B. Smith, Mrs. Wm. Hayes, Mrs. Nancy Brittain, Mrs. Laura Williams and Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards, which makes a total of nine pensions for the Seminole and Creek war episode.
