George Peery . . . born 6 Oct. 1766, and died 30 Aug. 1873 in Gentry Co. Missouri. He married in Virginia 4 July 1809 Jane Campbell Thompson dau. of Col. John and Lavisa Bowen Thompson. She was born 1 Aug. 1796 in Thompson's Valley Tazewell Co. Va. and died 8 June 1872 in Gentry Co. Mo. Her mother Lavisa Bowen was the daughter of Reece and Louisa (Smith) Bowen. Reece Bowen was killed at the battle of King's Mountain, Revolutionary War, while commanding a company of Virginia militia. George Peery and family, except his oldest son, removed from Virginia to Missouri in 1835 and settled in what is now Grundy County. They were among the first settlers in that county.

(2) Williams, Walter, A History of Northwest Missouri, Vol. 2, Chicago, IL and New York, NY: The Lewis Publishing Company, 1915, pp. 1212-1213:
The founders of the Peery family in Northwest Missouri were the brothers George, Evans, and Robert [Peery] . . . , and also Archibald Peery, who was a cousin and who married a sister of the three Peery brothers. It is noteworthy that George and his brothers Thomas and Fielding were of the slave-holding class, while the brothers Robert and Evans were against the institution, and the relatives by marriage, Buren and Gibson, were aligned in the same way.
George Peery was born October 6, 1786, and died in Gentry County, Missouri, August 30, 1873. He married Jane Campbell Thompson, who was born in Virginia, August 1, 1795, and was a daughter of Col. John Thompson, of Tazewell County, and a granddaughter of Lieut. Reece Bowen, who was killed at the battle. of King's Mountain in the Revolutionary war. George Peery was regarded in his community as a man of unusual information, but had a retiring disposition, and little inclination to accumulate wealth, and lived the life of a modest farmer. He possessed a high sense of honor and good steady habits. His wife was an excellent manager, possessed rare energy and common sense, and her children owed much to her character and influence.
George and Jane Campbell (Thompson) Peery were the parents of a large family of eighteen children, fourteen of whom lived to be grown and thirteen of whom married.
(3) A household headed by George PEERY is listed in the 1840 census of Madison Township, Livingston County, MO.
Listed in George's household are 1 free white male between 5 and 10 years of age; 2 free white males between 10 and 15 years of age; 2 free white males between 20 and 30 years of age; 1 free white male between 50 and 60 years of age; 1 free white females under 5 years of age; 1 free white female between 5 and 10 years of age; 2 free white females between 15 and 20 years of age; and 1 free white females between 40 and 50 years of age.
Assuming that George is the free white male listed in the 1840 census as then being between 50 and 60 years of age, he would have been born between 1780 and 1790, according to the 1840 census.
Assuming that George's wife is the free white male listed in the 1840 census as then being between 40 and 50 years of age, she would have been born between 1790 and 1800, according to the 1840 census.
Assuming that the other persons in George's household are children of George and/or his wife, those children would have consisted of 5 sons (1 of which sons would have been born between 1830 and 1835, 2 of which sons would have been born between 1825 and 1830, and 2 of which sons would have been born between 1810 and 1820, according to the 1840 census) and 4 daughters (1 of which daughters would have been born between 1835 and 1840, 1 of which daughters would have been born between 1830 and 1835, and 2 of which daughters would have been born between 1820 and 1825, according to the 1840 census).
