Col. GEORGE HALE . . . , born [say 1756], buried at Catskill, N. Y., 16 Aug. 1803, aged 45; married at Glastonbury, 4 Jan. 1787, HOPEFUL MOSELEY, born at Glastonbury, Conn., 5 July 1764, died after 1803, daughter of Capt. Joseph and Hopeful (Robbins) Moseley.
In 1789 he was associated with the Pitkin family in setting up a glass factory in East Hartford, and they were granted a lottery to raise funds. In Oct. 1790 he was made Lieutenant of the 6th Troop, 1st Regt., of Light Horse. In the 1790 Census he was at Glastonbury with a family of three females and a slave.
On 10 Oct. 1793, a regiment of Militia was organized in the town of Catskill, then in Albany County, of which George Hale was appointed second Major, and in 1798 he became Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant of this regiment. After Greene County was set up in 1800, he is mentioned as still in command, but a successor was appointed for him 27 March 1862, after he was appointed Sheriff.
George Hale of Glastonbury, for ??50, conveyed 3 Apr. 1792 to Capt. Elisha Hale of Glastonbury, 4 acres 3 rods. Of Catskill, Albany Co., N. Y., he sold 4 Apr. 1795, for ??300, to Joseph Moseley of Glastonbury, 87 acres.
Administration on his estate was granted, 25 Oct. 1803 to his widow Hopy and Thomas Hale, and Joseph Moseley and Dorrance Kirkland signed the bond with them.
