    • (1) Fiske, William, Wyman, "Clarke and Stacy Origins of Three Immigrants to Ipswich, Massachusetts: Simon and Elizabeth (Clarke) Stacy and Her Sister, Susanna (Clarke) Whipple," in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol. 160 (January 2006), pp. 20-22:

"Isabell Steacie, of Epping, widdow," in her will dated 12 April 1614, proved 7 February 1615/6, made the following provisions:

10s. to the "poore of Epping streete," to "sonne John my house or Tenem'ts against his Crofte, he pay unto Alice Steacie my daughter Twenty pounds" and to "Marie his wife tenne shillings in gold . . . [to] his wife a peece of gold or Eleaven shillings alsoe to his sonne Lawrence xs and to his sonne Frauncis xs and to his daughter Essabell a peece of gold of xxijs . . . [to] Will'm my sonne my Lease I have in a parcell of lande called Strancotes for all the yeres that are to come in it, he pay unto my daughter Alice tenne nobles . . . [to] Anne his wife one peece of gold of Eleaven shillings and to his sonne William a peece of gold of xxijs and to his daughter Anne xs . . . [to] Alice my daughter my best fetherbed and ioyne bedstidle w'th all the furnature used therewith and belonging to the same w'th and Brasse kettle the cubboard in the Parlor one cheste w'th the will, all my wearinge Lynnen and wollen . . . All the Residue of my Lynen and Pewter shalbe equallie devided betwene John, Lawrence, William, and Alice, my sonnes and daughter, and, either of them a Spurr Royall in golde [a coin worth fifteen shillings] . . . [to] my brother Henry Archer and Frauncis Archer, and my sister Day Spranger [each] fyve shillings . . . [she names] executor John my sonne [and] overseers my brother Henry Archer and my brother Frauncis Archer.

lsabell's identification of sister Day Spranger, as well as brothers Henry and Francis, clearly identifies her as the daughter of William and Isabell (Searle) Archer.

Simon Stacy was a witness to the will, along with Henry Butcher al[ia]s Garrold, brother-in-law of Isabell's son, William Stacy of Bocking. These associations and the fact that Simon's wife had Archer roots in Epping raised the possibility that Simon may have originated in that same parish. Examination of the Epping parish registers revealed Simon's baptism on 18 February 1592/3 as son of "Thomas Stace" - as well as several entries relating to their immediate family. . . .
