  Notes	(1) James C. "Jim" Hankins, "Early Southside Virginia Families" <http://www.cottagehill.com/descendants/f68.htm#f5043>: Elizabeth's maiden name isn't certain. I have listed it here as Davis, not because there is any conclusive proof but to draw attention to the matter and hopefully discover her true identity. However, the facts that William J. Hankins' wife's name was Elizabeth, William J. Hankins was appointed by the court to be the executor of Jacob Davis' Will, and that they named one of their daughters, Jane Davis, are all strong indications that Elizabeth's maiden name can only be Davis. A counter-view by the genealogist "Virkus" indicates that Elizabeth's maiden name was Washburn, but he offers nothing to substantiate that conclusion. From the middle names of Jane Davis and Margaret Williams it's possible that Elizabeth is giving us some insight into her parent's names. As such, Jane's middle name of Davis adds additional support to the conclusion that Elizabeth's maiden name was Davis, and Margaret's middle name of Williams may indicate that her mother's maiden name was Williams. And, although we have the Pittsylvania County Order Book that speaks of Jacob Davis' wife, Nancy, and son, William, concerning Jacob's Will, it does not mention a daughter . Elizabeth probably died before 11/15/1824 because that is the date of his [William J. Hankins'] Will, and Elizabeth isn't mentioned in the Will at all. If she had been living, then it's reasonable that she would have been mentioned in some fashion. Thus, she's presumed dead before November 15, 1824.
