      Notes

Samuel advertised for the return of a runaway servant woman in 1771. The runaway was described as being named Elizabeth Williams, about 24 years of age, born in Wales, of a middle size, a large lump on her right shoulder, of a fair complexion, with dark hair, and much given to lying. She had on a tow shift, with flaxen sleeves, a striped half thick petticoat, one drugget ___, a town apron, an old striped bed gown, one new pair of blue stockings, one pair of old ____, and strong shoes, newly soled, with hob nails in the toes. She stole and took with her six caps, with cambrick borders, a broadcloth cloak of a lightish color, without a cape, the collar lined with velvet and 2/6 in money, being a half crown bill, Pennsylvania currency. Whoever found the servant and brought her and the clothes to Samuel would be paid a reward of ten shillings.

Samuel was disowned by the Quakers for taking part in the military action during the Revolutionary War. He was a physician.

Following is an abstract of Samuel's will:
      Provides for wife, Mary.
To son, Benjamin, during life, two pieces of land, part of the plantation whereon Samuel dwelt containing 43 acres, 78 perches, and at his death to his children.
To son, Amos, two other parcels of land containing about 5 1/2 acres, also a lot where he had built a coal house and ??70.
      To daughter, Sarah, ??80.

To daughter, Beulah, ??50 at age 18.
To son, Samuel, all remainder of real and personal estate when of age.
