      V. JOHN FROST, mentioned in will of Walter Frost as having left money to the church at Fothersham, Co. York. Will mentioned in act book at York Probate Registry, as proved 15th June, 1519, in which he is styled "of Rudstone." This will cannot be found.

      WILLIAM FROST died 22nd May, 1537; held lands in Aikton, Featherstone, etc., under the heirs of Walter Frost. Post-mortem inquisition 29 Hen. VIII. Will dated 22nd May, 1537, in which he desires to be buried at Featherstone Church, "in the Calderstone quire under my own stall."

      WALTER FROST of Westham, Co. Essex, where he was buried. Held Manors of Newland, Walton and Featherstone; also lands in Aikton, Hekk, Beverly, etc., jointly with his brother, William Frost. Appointed in 1495 Receiver for the Forest of Macclesfield, and in 1502 Receiver for the Lordship of Macclesfield. (See Records in Town Hall, Chester.) Died 20th March, 1528-9. Postmortem inquisition 21 Henry VIII. Mar. ANNE, (see Foster Visit'n of Yorke, Brit. Museum), dau. of Richard Caley, Merchant of Staples, Calais. Died 1527.

      ROBERT FROST, elk, Rector of Thornhill, Yorks, Cannon of Bole, Archdeacon of Winchester and Stowe, Chancellor to Prince Arthur, son of Henry VII. Arms mentioned in Foster visit of Yorks, argent, a chevron gu between 3 trefoils az. Mentioned in will of Walter Frost, 1529; mentioned also in Ormerod's History of Cheshire (Vol. I, 68) as holding a Court in Chester. In the records in the Town Hall, Chester, we find that on the 20th Feb., 1494-5, he was nominated Chamberlain of the County Palatine of Chester, by Henry VII. On 24th May, 1495, he was named commissioner to inquire of what lands Thomas Danyel of Tabley, died seized of. In 1499 he made a similar inquiry of Sir Thomas Cocksley, Knt. of Malpas. In 1503 he was constituted a Justice of the Forests of Mara and Mondrem.

      . . . Thomas [Frost] (buried in S. Mary's church, Beverley), . . . married a daughter of John Woodruffe, of Woolley and other extensive estates, and had issue, Thomas, who married. . . .

      [The date of the Probate precedes the Name and that of the Will follows the Name, the reference to the Register and folio following the latter. The letter s. before the same signifies that an abstract of the Will is to be found in the Surtees Society's "Testamenta Eboracensia," and the abbreviations "Test. Ebor., S.S.," in the foot-notes refer to the same work. The term "Prob. Act" signifies that there is no Will existing, but only the Probate Act; "Adm." in like manner means that there is no Will but an Administration Act.]
