    Notes
    • (1) Hales, Thomas Glyn, The Hales Chronicles, 3rd Ed., Tucson, AZ: Privately Printed, 2008, p. 844:

      John HALES

Born about 1714 of Virginia the son of Edward HALES and Elizabeth Turner WILKINSON. Married about 1735 Hannah _____. Died 1 JAN 1792.

[Note by compiler: If, as this source claims, John married Hannah _____ about 1735, she was his first wife, not his second wife, Hannah MORRIS, whom he married about 1772.]

      (2) At least some of the information set forth in Note (1), above, is cast into doubt by the results of Y-DNA testing.

According to the Hale DNA Project website, the Y-DNA haplogroup of a participant whose most remote proven HAILE or HALE male ancestor was purportedly Edward HALE or HAILE, born about 1680 in England, died July 1756 at an unspecified location (Kit No. 39160) was R1b1a2.

Also, according to the Hale DNA Project website, the Y-DNA haplogroup of a participant whose most remote proven HAILE or HALE male ancestor was purportedly John HAILE or HALE, died between 1792 and 1794 in Isle of Wight County, VA (Kit No. 48789) was I1.

If the paper trails of both of those participants are correct, then Edward HAILE was not the father of John HAILE, as claimed in Hales, Thomas Glyn, The Hales Chronicles, 3rd Ed., Tucson, AZ: Privately Printed, 2008, p. 844.
