      Alberta E. Overmyer - Aug. 10, 1919 - Feb 12, 2000

Plymouth - Alberta E. Overmyer, 80, 177 Mariposa St., Mercedes, Texas, died of complications following surgery in Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco, Texas, at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2000.

Alberta was born the daughter of Francis and Margaret Pfeiffer Hepler on August 10, 1919, in Hamshire, Texas. Her family had moved from Kosclusko County to Texas, bought a farm and engaged in rice farming. In 1925 they moved back to Indiana and lived in Plymouth where Alberta graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938.

In the fall of 1938 she met Jack Overmyer. She had moved to Culver from Plymouth to take a job at the Culver Military Academy. They were married on May 3, 1941, in Plymouth Evangelical Reformed Church, now known as the First United Church of Christ.

Until Jack was drafted in the Army in December 1942, they lived in Culver.

Alberta moved back to Plymouth to work at the Office of Price Administration. After the war, "sick of ration coupons," she said, they bought their home in West Township, 10243 Pretty Lake Trail, where they lived and raised their family.

A homemaker, Alberta enjoyed quilting and sewing. She also worked for both the county and the city governments. She was in the Marshall County Treasurer's office and for 18 years was a Deputy Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Plymouth, retiring in 1983.

Community and the First United Church of Christ were important parts of Alberta's life. A member of the church since she was a young girl, she served as a Sunday School teacher, a church historian, and was on the consistory and various other committees. Both Alberta and Jack were active in the scouting program.

She was a retired trustee of Marshall County Historical Society.

Alberta is survived by her spouse Jack; two sons, James Edward Overmyer and Ellen Weiden of Lenox, Mass., and David Eugene and Carolyn Overmyer of Mattapoisett, Mass.

Grandson, Matthew Overmyer of Lenox, Mass., twin grandsons, Peter and Michael Overmyer, and grand-daughter, Maryanne Overmyer, all of Mattapoisett, also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clarence and Warren Hepler, and by a sister, Ruth Hepler.

Friends may visit with her family on Thursday, February 17, 2000, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind.

Alberta's funeral, officiated by the Reverends Dr. David Moffett-moore and Dr. Ronald Liechty, will be held on Friday, February 18, 2000, in the First United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center St., Plymouth, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to services.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial gifts in Alberta's memory may be made to the First United Church of Christ.
