    • (1) Zabriskie, George Olin, "The Jan Cornelisen Van Hoorn/Van Horne Family," The American Genealogist, Vol. 46, No. 2 (April 1970), pp. 110, 113-114:

Jan/John Van Horne, son of Cornelis Jansen Van Hoorn . . . by his wife Anne Marie Jans, was born in New York and baptized there on 11 Jan. 1669, parents noted as Cornelis de Visscher and Anna Maria Jans, witnesses as Laurens Vander Spiegel and Hillegond Joris (child's paternal grandmother). John lived in New York and became a prominent merchant, acquiring real estate in the City, Rockland County and in central New Jersey. He served as alderman of New York and as member of the New York General Assembly. He joined the Dutch Reformed Church in February 1701, and his wife joined 26 Feb. 1711/12. He was a church warden in 1717. About 1703 he lived near his mother in the Dock Ward, his household consisting of one male and one female adult, two male and one female child and two adult negroes. On 30 Dec. 1701, John Van Hoorn joined with others in protesting to King William III against the oppressive colonial government, and on 2 Oct. 1702 he, with other Chiefest Inhabitants and Freeholders of New York pledged support to the new Governor, Lord Cornbury. In February 1704/5 he and others petitioned the Crown regarding the low rates of exchange for foreign money in New York as compared with other American seaports. In February 1711 he and other merchants and traders petitioned for British Naval protection against pirates (Colonial Documents 4:935, 1008, 1135; 5:332). The will of John Van Horne of the City of New York, merchant, was dated 23 June 1733 and proved 22 Nov. 1735 in Middlesex County, New Jersey; also recorded in New York. In it, after bequeathing portions of his real estate to each of his surviving five children, he said:

I give and bequeath to my son Cornelius, to my son Andrew, my daughter Catherine, my son James, each of them an equall fifth part of all the remainder of my whole estate, both real and personall, wheresoever it is or may be found, to them and each of them, their heirs and assigns forever; my son Abraham, I also give him one-fifth part during his naturall life . . . and after his decease . . . to his children lawfully begotten by him, to them, their heirs and assigns; I say young John Van Horne he is to have a double portion . . . (NJW 2:508; NYW 3:262, described from photocopy).

On 20 March 1693 in the New York Reformed Church, with license dated same day, John married Catharine Meyer (transcribed as Meybi in license), daughter of Andries Jansen Meyer and Vroutje Ides Van Voorst, she baptized 8 Sept. 1672 in the New York Reformed Church, died 22 Nov. 1740 (HSYB 1899 203).
