All rights reserved.] Sara Adamse Brouwer b. say 1668 • Father: Adam Brouwer b. c 1620, d. bt 22 Jan 1692 - 21 Mar 1692 • Mother: Magdalena Jacobs Verdon b. c 1627 • Sara Adamse Brouwer was born say 1668 at Gowanus, Kings Co., Long Island, and not earlier than 1665 (no baptism record has been found). • She married first at Old First Dutch Reformed Church, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, on 13 July 1684 Tunis Janszen (banns 28 Jun 1684) "Theunis Janszen, j.m. Van Vlissingen, en Sara Brouwers, j.d. Van de Guijanes, d'Eerste woonende alheir en tweede op de Guijanes" (Vlissingen is Flushing, and may mean either Flushing, Holland, or Flushing, Long Island). The marriage is also recorded in the Flatbush Church records. • Sara Adamse Brouwer married second at Reformed Protestant Dutch Church, Flatbush, Kings Co., New York, on 23 September 1692 Tomas Smit "Thomas Smit, j.m., met Sara Brouwer wedue van Tuenes Jansen beijde woonende tot Bruekelen." • Sara Adamse Brouwer married third before 30 March 1701 Thomas Knight when she is called Sara Neyt as a sponsor for her nephew, Casparus Drake, and probably before the 1698 census of Kings County. • Sara Adamse Brouwer married fourth before January 1723/24 Samuel Broek when she is called Sara Broek. • Born say 1668 at Gowanus (no baptism record) she was married four times and was living in 1735. Sara and her third husband, Thomas Knight, lived at Gowanus. Her three known children are all by Thomas Knight. There is no evidence that she the mother of Magdalena Knight, the wife of Henry Vanderburgh (1685-1750) ancestors of U.S. Presidents Bush and Ford. • Sara Adamse Brouwer witnessed the baptism of Jan Pietersz Brouwer, son of Pieter Adamsz Brouwer and Petronella Uldrickse Kleyn, on 21 March 1685 at Reformed Dutch Church, New York City, (sponsors Theunis, Sara Brouwer). • Sara Adamse Brouwer witnessed the baptism of Sarah Evertse Van Gelder, daughter of Evert Hendricksen and Fytie Adamse Brouwer, on 9 March 1690 at Old First Dutch Reformed Church, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, (sponsors Abram Brouwer and Sara Brouwer). • Sarah is named in her father's will dated 22 Jan 1691/92. • Sara Adamse Brouwer witnessed the baptism of Casparus Drake, son of Josias Janszen Drats and Aeltje Adamse Brouwer, on 30 March 1701 at Old First Dutch Reformed Church, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York (sponsors Niclaas Brouwer, Sara Neyt. His father is recorded as Jesaias Draake). • Sara Knight and Martha Brouwer were indicted by the grand jury for false swearing with regard to a riot which occurred at the tavern kept by Thomas Knight in 1708. They were discharged during a subsequent session as nobody appeared against them. • "Samuel Knight (is) in a list of freeholders of Brookland dated 7 Jan 1723/24. Sara Broeks signed with a mark in behalf of her son Samuel Night." • Sara Adamse Brouwer witnessed the baptism of Johannes Linde, son of Johannes Linde and Rachel Knight, on 29 January 1735 at Reformed Dutch Church, New York City (sponsors Jacob Brouwer Junior, Sara Brouwer, h.v. van Samuel Broek).
