      . . . [Shelby R. Rutherford] was born in Logan County, Ky., and during his youth learned the blacksmith's trade, which he afterward followed. He immigrated to Missouri, and until 1859 lived in Butler County. He then came to Sebastian County, where he died in April, 1879. . . . [His parents] were born in Virginia, and in an early day immigrated to Kentucky.
