Margaret J. Downey, 92, 1036 James St., died at 12:55 P.M. Sunday at a local nursing home where she had resided since June 14, 1985. Mrs. Downey was born Dec. 25, 1893, at Appanoose Co., Iowa. She moved with her parents to OK at the age of eight and moved to Carthage 66 years ago from Stotts City. She was a member of the First Christian Church, and was active in the Women's Democratic Club of many years. She married Jess E. Downey Dece. 26, 1901, at Hillsdale, OK. He died Feb. 20. 1980. Survivors include four sons, Harold L. Downey, Carthage R.R. #5; J. E. Downey Jr., Carthage R.R. #4; L. J. Downey, Carthage; Donald A. Downey, Rogers, Ark.; three daughters, Mrs. Velma E. Marietta, Anaheim, CA; Mrs. C. L. Clinton, Carthage R.R. #4; and Mrs. Phyllis J. Hamilton, Carthage; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-granchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Ulmer Funeral Home with Bob Lyttle, Minister, officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery. The family will be at 1133 S.
