      HENRY HARRISON . . . , of "Hunting Quarter", Sussex county. In December 1755 he was commissioned a captain in the Virginia regiment under Washington, in place of his brother, Carter H., who had resigned on account of bad health. Governor Dinwiddie, in recommending the appointment, says Henry Harrison had already served under Braddock. He was in service in 1757 and probably later. His son, Henry Harrison, received a grant of 3,000 acres due his father on account of his services in the French and Indian War. Following is a copy of the warrant:

      "Virginia.

      I do hereby cretify that Henry Harrison the son and heir of Capt. Henry Harrison decd. is entitled to Three Thousand Acres of Land agreeable to His Majesty's Proclamation in the year of x x and as he is desirous to Locate the same in the County of Fincastle on some of the Western Waters if he can lay it on Lands that have not been surveyed by Order of Council and Patented since the above Proclamation. You are hereby authorized and required to survey the same.

      Given under my Hand and Seal at Williamsburg the Thirty first Day of December, 1773.

      Dunmore.

      To the Surveyor of Fincastle County.

      [Reverse]. Henry Harrison's Warrant. 3,000. I certify that two thousand acres of land & no more has been surveyed by virtue of the within warrant.

      Wm. Preston, S. M. C.

      Dec. i8th, 1779. Va. F. and L War Land Bounty Certificates."

      There is on record in Sussex, a deed dated May 21, 1767, from Henry Harrison, of Sussex, to Col. John Syme, conveying a tract called Hunting Quarter, to repay a debt of ??1,000 due from Harrison to Syme, and another deed, dated March 29, 1769, from Henry Harrison, of Sussex, and Mary his wife, to John Syme, of Hanover county, conveying a tract of 1,192 acres on Nottoway River in Sussex.

      The inventory of Henry Harrison was recorded in Sussex, March 18, 1773. It shows a large estate, including 44 negroes.

      Captain Henry Harrison married 1st Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Avery, of Sussex county, and died January 28, 1772. The Albemarle parish (Sussex) regsiter gives this date and also the following:

      "Sisters: Elizabeth Harrison, July 18, 1766; Sarah Cargill, Aug. 31, 1766.

      "Sarah, wife of Richard Avery and mother of Elizabeth Harrison & Sarah Cargill (above), November 1766."
      Henry Harrisno [sic] evidently married 2nd, Mary _____. There is in Sussex a marriage bond, dated June 2, 1773, for Michael Wall and Mary, widow of Henry Harrison.
