      (2) Berry, Brian J. L., "Was Mary French a Scudamore?", in The Shapely Connection, Vol. 5, No. 3 (Oct. 1992), pp. 66, 81:

      Edmundus bp. 15 Nov. 1550; m. Anne Dingley in July 1575; d. 1616.

      (3) Shirley, Evelyn Philip, Hanley and the House of Lechmere, London, England: Pickering & Co., 1883, pp. 9-16:

[T]he celebrated Judge, Sir Nicholas Lechmere, has preserved an interesting account, still remaining in MS. In the possession of his representative, Sir Edmund Lechmere, and which I will now proceed to quote: . . .

"Edmund Lechmere (only sone of Richard) in July 1575, and in the 17th yeare of Queen Elizabeth, (ye said Edmund being then about 25 years of age) tooke to wife Anne Dingley (or Dyneley,) one of the Daughters of Henry Digley of Charlton in the County of Worcester Esar by Mary his Wife one of the daughters of Sr Edward Nevill kt brother to the Lord Abergavenny. This Anne Dingley (as I find it register'd by her father) was borne the 4th day of feb: 1557. My grandfather Edmund Lechmere was borne 1550, and dyed ano 1616, being 66 yeares of age. . . .

"My grandfather Edmund Lechmere died at Tragod (one Mr. Seabornes House) in the parish of Lanruthall in Herefordshire, whither hee was fled to obscure himself (there being at that time some prosecution against him for religion, hee being of the Romish perswation) and is buried in Lanruthall church. He died upon St Andrews day, (Nov: 30) of an ague ano dni 1616, being a very healthy comely proper gentleman, as all that knew him (wch I did not,) doe report of him. My grandmother Anne Lechmere dyed in January 1620, at the house of Sr Walter Blount of Sodington in this County, where shee was then upon a visitt and is there buried; my grandfather and shee lived man and wife togeather 40 yeares and upwards. In theyr daies the estate of our family receaved much diminution, occasioned (partly) by theyr religion (partly) by tedious suits in law, especially yt for Bushley park, by chiefly by theyr superfluous house-keeping."

      (4) Shirley, Evelyn Philip, Hanley and the House of Lechmere, London, England: Pickering & Co., 1883, p. 14, footnote 1:

The Parish Register of Hanley records the baptisms of the following persons, whom I suppose to be the issue of this marriage [of Richard LECHMERE to Margery ROCKE]:- . . .

"Edmundus Lechmere, bapt fuit xv die Novembris 1550."

      (5) Shirley, Evelyn Philip, Hanley and the House of Lechmere, London, England: Pickering & Co., 1883, pp. 70-71:

The earliest of the sepulchral inscriptions to any of the Lechmere family of which we have any account, is the following, preserved in Habington's "Survey of Worcestershire," now in the library of the Society of Antiquaries. There are at present no remains of this inscription:-

"In ye southe syde of ye Church, lye under a stone inlayd wth brasse ye resemblance of them whose Inscription followethe 'Here lyeth buried under this stone the body of Richard Lechmere Gentellman, who deceased 23 Mart: 1568, leavinge behynd him Margery his Wyfe, of whome he had towe sonnes, Richard & Edmund, and seaven daughters, ffrauncys, Joane, Elianor, Mary, ffrauncis, Mary, and Winefred, God send them a joyfull resurrection.'" There is added in a later hand, "a little of the brass of the lady remains, all the rest gone."

      (6) Shirley, Evelyn Philip, Hanley and the House of Lechmere, London, England: Pickering & Co., 1883, p. 16, footnote 3:

The issue of Edmund Lechmere and Anne Dynely, according to the Hanley Register, was:-

"Edmundus Lechmere, bapt fuit xxii die Junii, 1577.

"Helinor Lechmere, bapt xxxmo die Augusti, 1579.

"Margeria Lechmere, bapt fuit xxi die Fenruarii, 1580."

Helinor appears to have died within the year.

"Helinor Lechmere sepult fuit iiijto die Januarii 1579" (80?).

      (7) In his will dated 23 March 1568, Richard LECHMERE did not mention the names of any of his children.

      (8) Edmund is described in the will of his mother, Margery, as her "only and dere beloved sonne."
