(2) Leonard, Lewis Keeler, Seven Hundred Ancestors, 1975, p. 73: John Knight and Richard Knight, tailors of Romsey, Hampshire, England, were brought to the Massachusetts Colony by the James of London, a ship of 300 tons. It sailed from Southampton on April 5, 1635 and arrived on June 3rd with passengers and cattle. John and Richard Knight, whose parents were probably William and Joan Hill Knight, settled in Newbury, Mass. Richard married Agnes Coffley. They had four daughters and he died Aug. 4, 1683 without male heirs. John Knight, born 1595, married Sarah Hawkins on Jan. 27, 1615. She was of Romsey and died there on Apr. 27, 1623. On Mar. 29, 1624 he married in England, Elizabeth Vincent. She died in Newbury, Mass. on Mar. 20, 1644/5 and he married, 3rd, Ann (Langley) Ingersoll, the widow of Richard Ingersoll. She died July 30, 1677. John Knight and his brother, Richard, became freeman on May 25,1636. He was chosen as a selectman of Newbury on July 6, 1638. Over the years he was active in the church and town and held many different offices. At one time he was a constable and at another an ensign. He owned several tracts of land. He died at Newbury in May, 1670. The children of John and Sarah Hawkins Knight were: 1. John, b. 1622 in England. 2. Sarah, m. Mar. 6, 1659/60, John Bartlett Jr. 3. Mary, b. 1620 in England; m. July 9, 1600 Joseph Downer.
