He graduated 1731 from Harvard College and settled on the southern point of the "town necke" in Newcastle, Me. He was chosen Selectman in 1760.

Line and remained in service until discharge of the troops in 1783. He was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati. He and Sarah had eight children: Sarah, Benjamin, John, Susanna.
