      (2) The Bureau of Land Management web site <http://www.glorecords.blm.gov> shows that two land patents covering land in OH were issued to Benjamin ADAMSON in 1814 and 1818, respectively. The parcels of land granted by these land patents are "on the waters of the North Fork of Paint Creek." There is a Paint Creek in Fayette County, OH, where Benjamin ADAMSON lived at the time of the 1820, 1830 and 1840 censuses.

According to the Bureau of Land Management web site:

"In the late 1790's and early 1800's, several dozen volumes of Ohio military bounty warrants were issued to Virginia veterans of the Revolutionary War. The lands were in the Virginia Military District in central Ohio (between the Scioto River and Little Miami River), which was set aside to fulfill the land requirements of these warrants. The land descriptions on these warrants consisted of little more than a metes and bounds survey, which was usually tied to other metes and bounds surveys in that area for previously issued warrants.

"Just about the only data our project team was able to capture from these warrants was the soldier's name, warrant number, survey date, signature date and acreage. Due to the lack of precise information on where the land was located, it was not possible to tie these records to a specific land description or to a county within the Virginia Military District."

Following is a description of the first such land patent granted to Benjamin ADAMSON:

      (3) A household headed by Benjamine ADAMSON is listed in the 1820 census of Madison Township, Fayette County, OH.

Listed in Benjamine's household are 3 free white males under 10 years of age; 1 free white male between 10 and 16 years of age; 1 free white male between 16 and 18 years of age; 1 free white male between 16 and 26 years of age; 1 free white male over 45 years of age; 1 free white female under 10 years of age; 2 free white females between 10 and 16 years of age; 1 free white female between 16 and 26 years of age; 1 free white female between 26 and 45 years of age; and 3 free white females over 45 years of age.

If Benjamine was the free white male listed in the 1820 census as then being over 45 years of age, he would have been born before 1775, according to the 1820 census.

If Benjamine's wife is one of the 3 free white females listed in the 1820 census as then being over 45 years of age, she would have been born before 1775, according to the 1820 census.

The other 2 free white females listed in the 1820 census as then being over 45 years of age would also have been born before 1775, according to the 1820 census. [These other 2 free white females were probably too old to have been children of Benjamine and/or his wife, but might have been other relatives of Benjamine and/or his wife.]

According to the 1820 census, the rest of the persons in Benjamine's household consisted of 5 males (3 of which males were born between 1810 and 1820, 1 of which males was born between 1804 and 1810, and 1 of which males was born between 1802 and 1804 and was included in both the 16-18 and 16-26 age brackets) and 5 females (1 of which females was born between 1810 and 1820, 2 of which females were born between 1804 and 1810, 1 of which females was born between 1784 and 1804, and 1 of which females was born between 1765 and 1784).

      (5) A household headed by Benjamin ADAMSON is listed in the 1830 census of Madison Township, Fayette County, OH.

Listed in Benjamin's household are 3 free white males between 10 and 15 years of age; 1 free white male between 15 and 20 years of age; 1 free white male between 20 and 30 years of age; 1 free white male between 50 and 60 years of age; 1 free white male between 60 and 70 years of age; 1 free white female under 5 years of age; 1 free white female between 5 and 10 years of age; 1 free white female between 15 and 20 years of age; and 1 free white female between 40 and 50 years of age. [Note by compiler: The numbers of persons in the various age brackets are difficult to read, so the compiler's analysis of the 1830 census may not be accurate.]

According to several sources, Benjamin was born on June 17, 1771, and would have been about 59 years of age in 1830. Therefore, Benjamin was probably the free white male in the 50-60 age bracket.

If Benjamin's wife was the free white female listed in the 1830 census as then being between 40 and 50 years of age, she would have been born between 1780 and 1790, according to the 1830 census.

According to the 1830 census, the rest of the persons in Benjamine's household consisted of 6 males (3 of which males were born between 1815 and 1820, 1 of which males was born between 1810 and 1815, 1 of which males was born between 1800 and 1810, and 1 of which males was born between 1760 and 1770) and 3 females (1 of which females was born between 1825 and 1830, 1 of which females was born between 1820 and 1825, and 1 of which females was born between 1810 and 1815).

      (6) A household headed by Benjamine ADAMSON is listed in the 1840 census of Marion Township, Fayette County, OH.

Listed in Benjamine's household are 1 free white male between 20 and 30 years of age; 1 free white male between 60 and 70 years of age; 1 free white female between 10 and 15 years of age; and 1 free white female between 50 and 60 years of age.

If Benjamine was the free white female listed in the 1840 census as then being between 60 and 70 years of age, he would have been born between 1770 and 1780, according to the 1840 census.

If Benjamin's wife was the free white female listed in the 1840 census as then being between 50 and 60 years of age, she would have been born between 1780 and 1790, according to the 1830 census.

      (7) A household headed by Benjamin ADAMSON is listed in the 1850 census of Fort Madison Township, Lee County, IA.

Benjamin is listed in the 1850 census as then being 55 years of age; therefore, according to the 1850 census, he was born in about 1795. According to the 1850 census, he was born in England.

[Note by compiler: The age listed for Benjamin in the 1850 census (55 years of age) is probably erroneous. According to several sources, Benjamin was born in 1771, and would have been about 79 years of age in 1850.]

Listed with Benjamin is his wife, Sarah, who was then 60 years of age; therefore, according to the 1850 census, she was born in about 1890. According to the 1850 census, she was born in England.

[Note by compiler: The age listed for Sarah in the 1850 census (60 years of age) is probably erroneous. According to several sources, Sarah was born in 1782, and would have been about 68 years of age in 1850.]
