. . . George Washington Sones at one time owned the entire Muncy Valley, PA. How did George Washington Sones originally come into the lands around present-day Sonestown? According to local history, the first settlers of that area were Timothy Crawley and Peter Anderson. They built a cabin and lived together until Crawley married. Benjamin Fiester then bought their property. John Whitacre actually owned the land on which Sonestown now sits which he sold to George W. Sones. Sonestown was founded in 1804. George subsequently sold a large part of his land holdings to his son John, Isaac's brother, who lived there until his death. John Sones made improvements on the land, which included the site of the village of Glen Sharon. His father George also built a sawmill near the present village of Sonestown about 1843.
