      (2) According to the DAR source cited above, "John Low (1752-1813) . . . was baptized in North Branch, N. J."

The Readington Reformed Church, formerly known as the "Church over the North Branch," and the "North Branch Reformed Dutch Church,"is described as follows in "Readington Church Baptisms from 1720," Somerset County Historical Quarterly, Vol. IV (1915), p. 141:

The Readington Reformed Church . . . was organized in 1717, or 1718, and began separate worship in a log building Feb. 21, 1719-20, located nearly opposite to the then residence of Andrew Ten Eyck (recently that of the late Mr. John Vosseller), its first pastor being the Rev. Theodorus J. Frelinghuysen. It was at this period collegiate with three other churches, Raritan, Six-Mile Run and Three-Mile Run. In 1739 the building was abandoned for a new frame building erected at Readington, about three miles west of the former site. This latter building was used for ninety-four years, or until 1833, when another church was built, and stood until 1864, at which time it was accidentally burned down. The present church building dates from 1865. The pastor have been as follows: Rev. T. J. Frelinghuysen, 1720-'48: Rev. John Frelinghuysen, 1750-'54; Rev. Dr. Jacob R. Hardenbergh, 1758-'81; Rev. Simeon Van Arsdalen, 1783-'87; Rev. Peter Studdiford, 1787-1826; Rev. Dr. John Van Liew, 1828-'69; Rev. Dr. J. G. Van Slyke, 1869-'70; Rev. John H. Smock, 1871-'83; Rev. B. V. D. Wyckoff, 1884 to present. The early baptismal records of the church were admirably kept and in an excellent handwriting, believed to have been that of Elbert Stothoff. The record now given is from the copy made by the present pastor, Rev. Mr. Wyckoff, by whose courtesy we are enabled to publish it.

The Readington Reformed Church's baptismal records for 1752 are set forth in "Readington Church Baptisms from 1720," Somerset County Historical Quarterly, Vol. IV (1915), pp. 298-308. [Note: The LOW surname was often spelled LOU in these records.] The following two baptisms of a Jan (John) LOW were performed in that church in 1752:

      1752. . . .

May 13. Lou, Cornelius and Johanna Jansen?Jan.
      Witness: Jannetje Lou. . . .

      Aug. 2. . . .

      Lou, Teunis and Maayke Hall?Jan.

It therefore appears that the John LOW who died in died in Muncy Valley, PA was probably one of the two Jan (John) LOWs who were baptized in the Readington Reformed Church in 1752. The fathers of those two Jan (John) LOWs, Cornelius (born in about 1718) and Tunis (baptized on Apr 03, 1723), were brothers of each other.

. . . John LOW . . . was a blanket weaver and carried on the manufacture of fancy bed spreads in Lycoming County on the Muncy Hills.

      (4) Book of Biographies: This Volume Contains Biographical Sketches of Leading Citizens of the Seventeenth Congressional District, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, NY: Biographical Publishing Co., 1899, p. 767:

John Low . . . followed the trade of a weaver, and throughout life resided on Muncy Hills, near Muncy, Pa. He was a soldier of the Revolutionary War and held the rank of a captain. He was twice married and was the progenitor of a large family of children.
