H/O Deborah L. Langford Hunsaker

[Note that obit dates differ somewhat from headstone dob March 10th 1822, dod February 05 1905.]

WELL KNOWN IN THIS COUNTY - DEATH OF JOSEPH R. HUNSAKER OF NOVELTY, MISSOURI - SKETCH OF HIS LIFE.

NOVELTY, Missouri, February 5; Joseph R. Hunsaker, the subject of this sketch, was born in Union County, Illinois March 10, 1822, and died In Novelty; Missouri, February 4, 1905, aged: 82 years, 10 months and 24 days.

In 1830 he removed with his parents to Adams County, Illinois, where in 1845 he joined the church under the preaching of the pioneer minister, Rev. George Wolfe, by whom he was baptized.

August 10, 1848, he married Deborah L. Langford. To this union were born four sons and three daughters. The four sons, Samuel Willey, Charles Cornelius, William Edward and Albert, and one daughter, Nellie Benjamin, survive him.

One daughter, Lillie, died in infancy. The other daughter, Sophia, wife of George W. Wolfe, died in Adams County, Illinois, in July, 1904.

In 1857 he removed to Novelty, Knox County, Missouri, and made this his home excepting a short time spent in Illinois during the war. Since September last, at which time his son-in-law, George W. Wolfe, and daughter May, moved here from Adams County, he made his home with them.

Realizing that his departure was near he called his children about him and gave explicit directions about the division of his property in a manner to avoid any hard feelings; he also planned his funeral, selecting the minister to conduct the same. The funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. Kellar, of Cherry Box, Missouri, after which the remains were laid "to rest beside those of his wife, who had by many years preceded him to the great beyond.

Uncle Joe, as we all called him, was a man of exemplary character and sterling worth - hence he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
